Daniel C. Rosen, PhD
Chair & Professor, Department of Counseling and Health Psychology
Daniel C. Rosen, PhD, is chair and professor in the Department of Counseling and Health Psychology at Bastyr University and was the founding co-director of the Daniel K. Church Center for Social Justice and Diversity. He earned a PhD in counseling psychology from Arizona State University after completing his predoctoral internship at the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology at Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the behavioral medicine program at Cambridge Health Alliance/Harvard Medical School.
Rosen's scholarship is focused in multicultural psychology and has explored issues of social justice in mental health, addressing disparities in access to and quality of mental health services; and antisemitism-related stress. He has a private practice in Seattle, Wasington.
Sylvie Shuttleworth, PhD
Chair & Professor, Department of Counseling and Health Psychology
Dr. Shuttleworth holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and is a Professor, as well as the Chair for the Counseling and Heath Psychology Department at Bastyr University. Dr. Shuttleworth has been working clinically since 1998 and has served as a university psychologist, school counselor, inpatient clinician, and residential therapist, as well as private practice providing consultation and assessments.
Dr. Shuttleworth has been teaching graduate and undergraduate psychology courses since 1999. She has done research and published in the areas of attachment style, coping strategies, healthy relationships, ethical and legal issues, motivational interviewing and the supervisory experience. Dr. Shuttleworth’s family are immigrants to the United States and Portuguese is her first language.

A team from Bastyr University and the University of Washington saw an opportunity to study the effects of social isolation on mental health. The two universities now seek to answer this question in a national study open to participants anywhere in the United States.
