Rebecca Rashid Achterman, PhD
Program Director, Integrated Human Biology
Rebecca Rashid Achterman, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Sciences at Bastyr University and Program Director for the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Human Biology degree. Her teaching interests include Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Biochemistry and Cell/Molecular Biology.
Dr. Achterman obtained her PhD in Microbiology from the University of Washington and demonstrated that Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli regulate virulence factors differently in human-vs-bovine hosts. Her current research interests include working with undergraduate researchers to identify and characterize antimicrobial compounds from natural sources that are active against dermatophytes, and educational research aimed at identifying and addressing common misconceptions in Microbiology.
