Health Education Informed by Science & Nature: the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University

The School of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University develops leaders in the evolving field of natural medicine by emphasizing the role of nature as the most effective healer and providing education in current scientific research on health and human systems.

Since its inception in 1978, Bastyr University has been a pioneer in science-based natural medicine. With little more than ambition and a dream, Bastyr’s founders created a vision for an accredited natural health school that is now recognized as the leading health arts and sciences university in the world.

Bastyr’s accredited naturopathic doctor (ND) program is internationally renowned for its rigorous curriculum, comprehensive clinical training and groundbreaking research. Our graduates consistently earn top scores on the Naturopathic Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) and go on to become transformative healers and leaders in natural medicine. In fact, graduates from Bastyr’s ND program get accepted to residency programs in over 11 states as well as Canada. More than any other ND school in North America.

Accreditation

The Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program is accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), a specialized accrediting board recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. A copy of the CNME Handbook of Accreditation for Naturopathic Medical Colleges and Programs (2022 edition) is on reserve in the Bastyr University Library.

Courses and Curriculum
Bastyr University offers an integrated, hybrid curriculum that focuses on real-world experiences. Students are trained to think like doctors from the start through a combination of disciplines like anatomy and physiology with case study classes and clinical experience.

Faculty work with students to solidify the connections between concepts and disciplines within the practice of medicine and how they work together to support the body.
